Christoph Wedenstein, founder of Wedenstein

Christoph Wedenstein trained as a mechanical engineer before teaching himself surface craftsmanship in the early 2000s — an autodidact's path that later extended into furniture making, learned the same way: through hands-on practice rather than the classroom. That dual foundation, engineering precision paired with self-taught hand-craft mastery, became his signature.

He built his reputation in the luxury automotive industry before moving into superyacht interiors, where the same exacting standards apply at a far greater scale. Over the years he has mastered dozens of traditional craft disciplines — several of them now rare and at risk of disappearing — including photorealistic painting, gilding, and hand-stitching, alongside his core specialism in surfaces.

Over 30,000 hours of hands-on work in fine craftsmanship now carry into private residences and architectural commissions across Europe and beyond, always led personally, on site, from first concept to final installation.

Today, his role has shifted increasingly toward project direction — leading on every level, from concept to final detail, and coordinating project teams of up to 50 people where required, even as the core team stays deliberately small. The respect he holds with clients and craftsmen alike stems from having worked through every station himself. He doesn't ask of a trade what he hasn't done with his own hands.

"The work is only ever as good as the hand that finishes it."
